Vinyl Ranch Rail Fences
A ranch rail fence is the simplest fence there is: posts and two, three or four horizontal rails between them. In vinyl it keeps the clean white look of a country fence without the painting that a wood rail fence needs.
It marks a boundary, lines a long driveway or frames a lawn while leaving the land open to view. It does not give privacy or hold small animals on its own.

For as long as you own the property

Two, Three or Four Rails
Two rails
Low and open, usually 3 to 4 feet tall: for marking a line, a front lawn or a driveway edge.
Three rails
The classic look, typically 4 to 5 feet. It reads as a proper fence along a road and is the common choice for larger lots.
Four rails
Closer rails and a taller fence, for paddocks and anywhere animals need more than a line on the ground.
Uses and Limits
Boundaries and driveways
It shows where the property ends without hiding the house or the yard, and it stays bright with only a wash now and then.
Pets
Dogs walk straight through a rail fence. Welded wire fixed to the inside of the rails keeps them in while the fence still looks open. See dog fences.
Not a barrier
It does not give privacy or security and does not meet pool-barrier rules. For those, see vinyl privacy fences and pool fences.

Installation and Care
Following the ground
Rails slide into routed posts, and on rolling ground the posts are set so the rails follow the slope in a smooth line.
Gates
Matching rail gates for walk-throughs, and wider double gates for a tractor or a trailer, hung on reinforced posts. See gates.
Upkeep
A wash once or twice a year to take off the green film that damp, shady fence lines grow here. No paint, no stain.
Ranch Rail Fence Cost
Less material, lower price
A 6-foot vinyl privacy fence starts around $55 a foot installed. A rail fence uses far less vinyl per foot, so it usually costs less; the number of rails, the height and the ground set the price.
Long runs
Rail fences are often long. We measure the whole line and price it per foot, with gates and any wire on their own lines.
Priced on site
The calculator prices vinyl privacy panels, not rails; send the line through the estimate request.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is vinyl rail fencing strong enough for horses?
Vinyl rail fencing is used for horses, often with an electric wire along the top so they do not lean on it. Tell us what the fence has to hold and we will size the posts and rails for it.
Does vinyl rail fencing turn yellow?
Good-quality vinyl has UV inhibitors and keeps its color for many years. Older or low-grade vinyl can yellow and turn brittle in the sun.
Can a broken rail be replaced?
Yes. A rail slides out of its posts and a new one goes in, provided the same profile is still made; keep the product name on file.
